Default Wrestling

I was just watching that one show on MTV about WWF wrestling (or whatever it is) and I'm sorry...but I don't get how anyone can like wrestling. Whats entertaining about watching people fake beating eachother up? I dunno about you...but it all seems really hickish and immature to me. What does everyone else think bout it?

I think this should be in the appropriate forum. Sports Entertainment.

I think it's kinda stupid too, but hey, I used to like it so I guess it's alright. I mean people know it's not real you know? They just enjoy watching it cause it looks real and to some it's interesting. Everyone has something they like so I guess let's just let them see whatever they enjoy.
BTW: DTA are you a guy?!?

I like it because even though it is fake, it requires the most athletic ability out of any sport. Plus when they come up with a good story line it can get hard not to turn in. Wrestling is a soap oprha (spelling?) for men.

The most athletic ability of any sport?! YEAH RIGHT!!! I can think of some sports right now that take more athletic ability. Plus PRO WRESTLING isn't a sport. It's a show to see who can take the most pain...that's not athleticism.

You're absolutely right... it is fake... it is so obviously and unbearably fake, everyone knows it, nobody (besides little kids) denies it, but its interesting. The storylines are what keep you interested. And once you watch a few episodes and watch the characters develope the realness no longer matters. And if you watch, half the shit that they take inflicts more pain on them than you could probably take without throwing up. It is amazing how much pain those people must go through. And there is nothing fake about when somebody like Shane O Mac falls 75 feet from the top of the set onto a wooden crate... DAMN THAT WOULD HURT.

Excuse me? Wrestling for 20 minutes STRAIGHT, and giving it everything you have 4 nights a week, you have to be in peak physical form. Other professional sports the players spend half the time sitting on their ass' or standing on the field (Baseball and American football). And its not a show about how much pain someone can take, its like anyother sport where people train hard night after night to reach the top. I would like to see you (or any other profesional athliet) climb into a wrestling ring and last more than 2 minutes before you (they) give up.

Exactly, and though the outcomes and the highlights of a match may be scripted, the shit in between is all improv.

it may be scripted to an extent, but i wouldn't call it fake. fakeness would imply that there was no pain or sacrifice involved, and that's just not true. there are times when i have lost interest in it or got a bit bored with it, but i have never lost my respect for the amazing athletes that do this sport EVERY single day of their life. as well as the physical pain they go through, they also have to make huge sacrifices to make it into the business, a successful wrestler is on the road about 360 days a year, with or without their family.
the appeal of 'Sports Entertainment' is not the realism, it's the storylines, the athletisism, the charisma, the humour, the women and the emotion, just to name a few. it is a modern day male soap opera, with half naked women and a hell of a lot of violence thrown into the mix, what more could u ask for.
even though some people look at it and say "oh my god, it's shit, look...there not even hitting each other, it's so fake", well if they really went out to that ring with the intent to really hurt each other, with their size, a wrestler would die just about every week. i personally think that a lot of what they do looks realistic.
the main point of wrestling is not to make the audience think it's real, but to entertain instead, and that they do.
the WWF is a worldwide phenomenon, because they entertain.

And the fakeness adds humour... I think its hilarious watching (especially the female wrestlers) "punching" with their forearms!
