it may be scripted to an extent, but i wouldn't call it fake. fakeness would imply that there was no pain or sacrifice involved, and that's just not true. there are times when i have lost interest in it or got a bit bored with it, but i have never lost my respect for the amazing athletes that do this sport EVERY single day of their life. as well as the physical pain they go through, they also have to make huge sacrifices to make it into the business, a successful wrestler is on the road about 360 days a year, with or without their family.
the appeal of 'Sports Entertainment' is not the realism, it's the storylines, the athletisism, the charisma, the humour, the women and the emotion, just to name a few. it is a modern day male soap opera, with half naked women and a hell of a lot of violence thrown into the mix, what more could u ask for.
even though some people look at it and say "oh my god, it's shit, look...there not even hitting each other, it's so fake", well if they really went out to that ring with the intent to really hurt each other, with their size, a wrestler would die just about every week. i personally think that a lot of what they do looks realistic.
the main point of wrestling is not to make the audience think it's real, but to entertain instead, and that they do.
the WWF is a worldwide phenomenon, because they entertain.
