now those two referees that are going home were they fired?
No. They sent home all but 12 referees (who passed math and don't have a card fetish - hopefully) home. Marco Rodriguez went back to his day job of selling drugs to school children.
Hmm.. The Portuguese arent cheats. They may go down easily but a lot of nations do it.. even saintly England. Ronaldo was blatently targetted and thats disgusting.
A lot of Portuguese players dive and cheat whether they're playing for their national side or their club sides.. I can't believe anyone who isn't a die-hard Portuguese would cheer on such foul play. They must go for the good of the tournament!
Portugal have vented their fury at the English press for publishing a "fake" interview by their striker Pauleta.
The Portugal star is quoted as telling The Sun newspaper that keeper Paul Robinson is England's weakest link.
"The Sun has published a fake interview with Pauleta that was then quoted by other outlets," said team spokesman Alfonso de Melo.
"Portugal players give no interviews outside team press conferences and mixed zones after matches."
Portugal play England in their World Cup quarter-final match on Saturday.
De Melo also accused some of the media outlets in England of labelling the Portugal side as "insubordinate and violent" after their 1-0 win over Holland.
The match saw two players from each side sent off and 16 yellow cards.
"Such comments are unbearable, unfair and preposterous," he added.
"Portugal has passed the last four years with no red cards and the players are known to be fair."
These are the referees for the Quarter-Final matches:
Germany v Argentina (Lubos Michel, Slovakia)
Italy v Ukraine (Frank de Bleeckere, Belgium)
England v Portugal (Horacio Elizondo, Argentina)
Brazil v France (Luis Medina Cantalejo, Spain)
Neil - Weren't you hoping to get Cantalejo as referee for England - Portugal?
