Holland 2-1 Ivory Coast
Not quite the classic from earlier on, but another solid performance from Holland, quite similar to what they did against S&M. In other words, the Dutch were better in the first-half, but seemed to settle more and more for a 2-1 win further into the second-half.

Van Persie's goal was powerful - unstoppable! It was a deserved lead for Holland at that point. Not long afterwards Van Nistelrooy finished off a superb Dutch move, showing that they too can pass the ball around with style! Zokora's 25 yard effort which struck the crossbar injected some life back into the Ivort Coast after it looked like their heads might drop for a while. 3 minutes later Kone beat 2 Dutch defenders and rifled a shot into Van Der Sar's top corner - another fantastic goal!

Ivory Coast pressed Holland in the second-half and came close to scoring on several occassions. With just over 10 minutes 'Togo' Van Persie chested a Drogba header off the line, with Cocu clearing the ball away.. one of the closest moments for IC. The Africans couldn't find a goal though, and thus both they and S&M are eliminated from the World Cup.

The referee had a slightly dodgy game. He cautioned Robben for what he obviously interpreted as a dive, but the refs have been told to yellow card 'diving' players only if they are very sure the player did dive. Robben was clearly touched by the IC player while running pretty quickly, and at that pace, what else can he really do!? Drogba (who handled the ball early on! ) received a yellow card as he challenged Van Der Sar for the ball. Hardly any contact was made, and Drogba was trying to win the ball.. so why a yellow card again!?

Next week: Argentina - Holland.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO HOLLLAND IN THE NEXT ROUND!!!

The game freaked me out! It was so different than the one against S&M. Ivoorkust was strong at some points, but luckely Van Persie and Ruud where aible to score. Van Persie sad that (i think it was) Sneijder said just before the freekick "Ill hang around your neck in 20 seconds", and so he did cuz Robin scored Ruud also made a great goal. I was really happy for him he made it cuz he wasn't playing so well the last game.

I thought the referee was stupid. An Ivoorkust player hit the ball with his hands and the guy does nothing, than they tackle Robben in the penalty area and Robben (!) gets a yellow card for a swalbe. *kicks the stupid referee to the moon*

But all is well now as they are in the next round. They'll get either Portugal or Mexico as it looks so far.

Hottest player of the game:

Robin van Persie

Mexico 0-0 Angola
Why did I even bother watching!? Poor.. very poor. If ever you needed proof that Mexico's ranking of 4th is a joke (like most of the FIFA World Rankings are) then this is it. If you still need more proof, notice how Argentina are ranked 9th and Spain joint 5th.. Try 24th.. or 34th for Mexico. No offence meant to Angola, they played well, but they're not exactly the greatest team ever. Its fantastic for them to have won their first World Cup point (their biggest sporting achievement! ). There will be a big party in Angola tonight.

Something to note - tonight we saw the 6th red card of this World Cup, which was shown to Andre Macanga. 5 of these red cards have been shown to World Cup debutants - T&T, Togo, Ukraine, S&M and now Angola.

Drogba does the same for Chelsea. Maybe he should take up handball instead!

Beckenbauer says referees are handing out too many yellow cards

BERLIN (AP) -- Franz Beckenbauer is annoyed at all the yellow cards being handed out by World Cup referees, and the tournament organizer accused an African official of stupidity on Friday.

Beckenbauer told ZDF television that Benin's Coffi Codjia's yellow cards in the match between Ecuador and Costa Rica "were stupid."

Codjia handed out five yellows, about average for the competition so far.

Beckenbauer said bookings for time wasting were ridiculous.

"As a referee in that situation, I have to go over to the player and let him know that next time he will receive a yellow card," Beckenbauer said. "If the players are booked again, they will miss a match -- and that is out of proportion."

FIFA has ordered referees at the World Cup to clamp down on time wasting by immediately carding offenders. Players were told about the harsher line in pretournament briefings.

The highly visible Beckenbauer is not thought to be interested in running for FIFA president, but could try for head of European soccer's governing body UEFA when Lennart Johansson retires. The former Germany captain's stock has risen sharply because of the smooth organization of this World Cup.

Referees handed out 102 yellow cards and five red cards in the first 21 matches of the competition, an average of 4.9 yellow cards per match. An average of 4.25 yellows per game were handed out at the 2002 World Cup: 272 yellows and 17 reds in 64 matches.

The number of cards shown has risen steadily over the years. In Spain in 1982, 98 yellow cards were shown.

Wow 102 yellow cards from the past 21 matches this year damn that is alot and 5 red cards wow that is a record gees yeah there are to many cards this is insane i hope they will calm down with the cards soon.
