I should really just go to Munich and watch on a game on a big square or something. I mean it's so close! Ok, back to the game now.

Is it wrong that I laughed when US lost 3-0? It's probably because our team was hyped up so much for the first time ever, and they lost in the first match. sigh... But I'm sure we can kick back.

Those Germans are always lucky at the end. Congrats to them for advancing.

Germany 1-0 Poland
This was the first match in the 2006 World Cup which could prove to be really decisive. Poland very much so needed a result, or they would almost certainly be the first team out. Germany were the better team during the first-half. Klose should have scored with 20 minutes of the match gone, but he put his header a few inches wide.. he couldn't have been much 'closer' to scoring. Podolski should have scored just before half-time, but dragged a close range shot wide of the far post. Poland weren't out of the match though. They defended well and had moments of good attacking play, but they didn't seriously trouble Lehmann.

The second-half seemed to increasingly head in Germany's direction. Poland seemed more intent on going for a draw, and when they went down to 10 men the match became a one sided affair. Klinsmann's substitutes - Odonkor (a donkey! ) and Neuville - were causing the Polish all kinds of problems, especially Odonkor with his pace. Artur Boric made two brilliant saves with 10 minutes remaining, first from Lham's cut in from the left side and shot, then from Neuville's close range effort (the second save was the better one IMO). With time quickly running out Klose went ever 'closer' to scoring, this time with a header which looped over the keeper, but came back off the crossbar!! .. Ballack then hit the crossbar on the rebound. The ball eneded up in the back of the net following another rebound, but the flag had already been raised for offside.

It seemed like this simply wasn't to be Germany's night, until Odonkor broke down the right and delivered a perfect cross for Neuville to poke the ball into the bottom corner. No chance for Boric, cruel for Poland after they had held on for so long, but also a deserved win for Germany.

Why are the Germans acting like they are through!?

Just imagine for a moment..

Costa Rica 2-0 Ecuador
Ecuador 2-0 Germany
Costa Rica 2-0 Poland

Final Table:

1. Costa Rica. (6) +2
2. Ecuador. (6) +2
3. Germany. (6) +1

Unlikely, but possible!

Realistically.. for Poland to qualify, Costa Rica need to beat Ecuador tommorow. Any other result and they're the first team knocked out. A win for Ecuador would also knock Costa Rica out.

After 2002 its not surprising that USA been hyped up. I thought they'd have a chance of doing well, but with Italy next for you guys, it doesn't look too healthy anymore.
