Default US Open 2006

We have had it all, almost. The US Open 2006 is the last Grand Slam of 2006 and the Champion of last year, Clijsters, isn't participating.

This week Venus Williams announced a withdraw as well, 'cause of her left wrist.

In the 1st Round of the US Open two English players will meet, Henman vs Rusedski. The winner of that match will face Federer in the second, in case he advances ofcourse.

Serena Williams is back on court, but unseeded, so she could be facing some tough ones very soon. Hantuchova in the 2nd Round & Ivanovic in the 3rd, with Mauresmo being a possible opponent in the 4th Round?

Dutchy Michaela Krajicek will face #3 seed Sharapova, so Krajicek can go home straight away.

Furthermore, Davenport is back and we have to look out for Vaidisova, big new talent! You should not take big literally.

I'll be tough to see the matches, due to the time differences, nonetheless the US Open deserved its own thread.

At least Serena is able to participate. Or did you mean Venus and accidently wrote Serena?

OT: Just a little question, is it write Serena or wrote Serena?

Ah, understood.

Both Zvonareva & Henin have reached the 2nd Round by winning in 2 sets.

Nice to see the action getting started! I was curious to see when we would get any Tennis played, after hearing about the black clouds and rain hanging over NYC.

It's not only NYC, it has been raining here all day long.

Andy Roddick (9) is leading in his match against Serra. He has won the first 2 sets and is up 3-1 in the (final?) 3rd set.

6-3 in the 3rd (and yes final!) set .. easy for Roddick.

It certainly is! I'm not quite sure whether the round robin format would give us more or less shocks though... If it does, then great! .. if not, then scrap it. Starting tournaments on Sunday I do agree with.
