Good performance by Celtic so far, they are playing a lot better than Barca. Newcastle are playing really poor once again. Mallorca should be at least 2 or 3 up.

Woo hoo!

Celtic beat Barcelona 1-0! Dunno what the hell was going on in the tunnel at half time though!

Newcastle win also, that's a bit of a suprise result. Well seriously after how the match was going on 60mins, would you have predicted 4-1?!

Liverpool drew again with Marseille. The reds are staring to become painful to watch in europe and have a tough trip to the Velodrome. They need to work their socks off in France.

Elsewhere in Europe, Valencia were made to pay the penalty in Turkey and Benfica and Inter held each other in a 0-0 draw despite an exciting game.

Fourth Round, 1st Leg Results
Auxerre 1-1 PSV Eindhoven
Benfica 0-0 Inter Milan
Bordeaux 3-1 Club Brugge
Genclerbirligi 1-0 Valencia
Villarreal 2-0 Roma

Not great results for either Valencia or Roma. I haven't seen any match highlights from either games or read any reports, but I would have expected both teams to have done better. PSV look in good shape with the away goal and I'd fancy Milan to go through if they have a good defensive display at home. Brugge look like they've got a tougher challenge. Good luck to them.

Celtic 1-0 Barcelona
I didn't get the chance to see this match! Apparently 'certain' programs aren't available on digital packages .. and I was out anyway, so would have missed 80 minutes of the game regardless. Great result for Celtic. The sending's off didn't look too pretty at half-time and the second one from Barcelona could have really opened up the match, I'm a little surprised that there weren't more goals. If Celtic can get the away goal in Spain I think they've got an excellent chance of going through.

Liverpool 1-1 Marseille
An average performance from Liverpool (as usual). Both goals were scored in the second-half, the first coming from Baros, the equaliser from Drogba. Liverpool showed some real urgency in the last few minutes and had one excellent chance to take a lead into the return leg, but Barthez made a good save from the shot. Liverpool needed to show more of that urgency earlier in the game. I don't think they'll survive the second-leg.

Newcastle United 4-1 Real Mallorca
My initial responce to this scoreline was one of surprise, especially after the way Newcastle performed recently against Valerenga .. and after Emma's comment that they should be 2 or 3 down. Three goals in seven minutes to give them a 3-1 lead .. what happened? did Mallorca crumble, or did Newcastle simply turn the heat up and have a magic 10 minutes. The fourth was the icing on the cake and surely now they will have the confidence to go through.

Roma will turn it around (at least I hope so), Barca were very poor and now will miss Saviola greatly in the return leg.

My thoughts on the next legs:

Damn! Roma are in deep s*** after that result! One goal to Villarreal and they need to get four!

Newcastle should progress as long as they don't do anything stupid. Mallorca are looking like relegation material at the minute and they are not going to go into this with low morale.

Marseille will beat Liverpool in the next leg in my opinion. They simply are not good enough at the moment.

Celtic will still need to defend with their lives at the Nou Camp. With Ronaldinhio in their team they will be looking dangerous.

Valencia will turn it round against Genclerbirligi Possibly a rout on the cards here.

Milan V Benfica is too close to call and I think the first goal in the match will be crucial. Mind you if Benfica get that goal then one might say that Inter have had it. They'll need two and they don't rattle the net often enough. That's Italian footballs key problem. Too defensive.

Auxerre will beat PSV. I think their league form is good enough to suggest a damn good showing away in Holland.

Bordeaux will complete what's looking like a real golden turnaround for French football this season. Four teams in two quater finals in the top two competitions makes good reading for the french. So does Bordeaux's 3-1 lead.

Yeah, I'd agree. I can't see Liverpool getting any kind of result out in Marseille. They seem to do better in the UEFA Cup than domestic competitions, but this time I just can't see them winning.

Roma are not in a good position at all. I don't see them winning if Villarreal get an away goal. 4 might be too much.

Agree on both counts.

4 goals is too much for AS Roma in my book and as for Liverpool, the atmosphere in the Velodrome often helps to produce good football by the home side.
