It was actually an own goal by Smiljanic. Basel are causing their own downfall at the moment, they'll need to score three to go through.

Liverpool are living dangerously against Steaua, but the score remains 0-0.

Not so good for another Italian team:

Hajduk 1-0 Roma, 1-1 on aggregate at the moment.

And it's already second half, so I don't see Basel getting back in the match.

Now that is surprising, cause AS Roma is a title candidate in Italy.

Lastest Score:

Auxerre - FC Utrecht (3-0) And the 0-0 a couple of weeks ago was so hopeful.

Basel just had a goal ruled out for offside and that was after 12 minutes of the second half, so maybe still a glimmer of hope for them.

Now it's 4-0.

Cool

Only two British teams left after the first two rounds. Newcastle, who beat Basel 1-0 (4-2 agg) and Liverpool, who beat Steaua 1-0 (2-1 agg) .... more could join them if Arsenal, and Celtic fail to qualify from their group and finish third. Rangers look likely to join them.

Other major teams through: Barcelona, Mallorca, Roma, Auxerre, Sochaux, Benfica, Bordeaux and Parma.

Half-time:

Maccabi Haifa 0-2 Valencia .... I think it's safe to say that Valencia are through. The goals have come from Mista (11) and Baroja (24).

A very interesting draw.

Liverpool and Newcastle seem to have fairly simple ties, I think they should both be able to make it to the 4th round with little problems. Celtic should be able to make it through as well.

Parma shouldn't underestimate Genclerbirligi, they'll be very capable of pulling off a good result. Vaencia .v. Besiktas looks like it could be a great tie.
