Koeznetsova has won the Bali WTA Final. She defeated Weingartner with 6-1 and 6-4. It's clear she was too strong.

This monday, Koeznetsova will climb to #5 on the World Ranking.

Congrats to Marat Safin!

Marat Safin gratefully snapped a title drought stretching back nearly two years with a 7-6 (7/4), 7-5 victory over Mikhail Youzhny to win the US$500,000 China Open Sunday night.
Safin, who won the US Open in 2000 and reached world number one, last lifted a trophy in November 2002 at Paris Bercy.

Over six months of wrist injury drama in 2003 and a loss in the Australian Open final to Roger Federer, he persevered, finally coming good against his younger Russian compatriot 22 months after his last success.

"It's so good to finally win another title," said Safin, aiming to battle for a place in the end-of-season Masters Cup in Houston. "He was playing well and I was nervous at the start.

"I'm not used to playing these matches for titles. I lost serve in the first game but then I steadied. I didn't want to lose, we both played well."

Three-time French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten will be out of action for up to six months after undergoing further surgery on a recurring hip problem.

A spokesman for the Brazilian said Thursday that he had undergone successful surgery under specialist Marc Philippon in Pittsburgh on Tuesday to remove cartilage from his right hip and would now need to rest for four to six months.

Kuerten underwent surgery on the same hip in February 2002 but has since struggled to regain the form which took him to the world number one spot as well as his three Roland Garros titles.

The 28-year-old will remain in the United States for three weeks before returning to Brazil, and he will be able to begin light exercises to strengthen his muscles after a month.

Kuerten, ranked world 27th, told the daily O Estado de Sao Paulo that all that he was hoping for was "to be able to return to play without pain".

Tennis specialist Rogerio Teixeira said that the surgery would correct the painful problems that were hampering Kuerten's game.

"This type of surgery requires a structured recovery programme, so that the wounds heal properly and Guga can return to the highest level," said Teixeira.

That's very sad news for Kuerten. Things aren't going so well for our Martin Verkerk either. I don't see him play a while either. And with Schalken out too ...

It seems Koeznetsova wants to do the same as Davenport did. After winning the US Open, she won the Bali tournament and now she's in the Final of the Peking tournament.

In the Semi's she defeated Sharapova with 6-2 and 6-2. She's now 14 consecutive matches undefeated.

The other Semi-Final is between S Wiliiams and Zvonareva.

Despite the fact that the Chinese audience was pretty noisy, it was a great Final.

Serena Williams won the tournament in 3 sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

It was indeed her birthday, her 23th to be exact.

There's a WTA tournament in Hasselt (Belgium) going on. Dementieva is participating and also ... Kim Clijsters! The tournament is in its second round.
