Kim Clijsters won't get a chance to defend her Indian Wells' title after withdrawing on Saturday from the US$4.9 million ATP/WTA Indian Wells tournament.

Clijsters, who was seeded second, pulled out with a left-wrist injury. She does not know how long she will be sidelined.

"It is frustrating," said Clijsters. "I felt like I was playing well. This is one of my favourite tournaments so it is very disappointing."

Tournament doctors described the injury as a bruised bone on her left wrist and tendinitis.

The injury might not be that terrible. I'm glad she pulled out of the tournament though, good decision and good precaution.

I think its a good decision for her, just in case she aggravates it more.

Exactly.

We'll have to wait further examinations. This injury could keep her out from 1 week (best) till 6 weeks (worst).

Let's hope on 1 or 2 weeks

Spanish players at the Indian Wells Masters Series tennis tournament are wearing black ribbons in memory of those killed and wounded in bombings in that country that left some 200 dead.

The attacks shocked and saddened the Spanish players, who rushed to contact family members back home.
"Thank God everybody is OK, I've got a lot of friends there," said former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez, who learned of the bombings on the Internet.

A series of terror attacks on commuter passenger trains killed about 200 people and injured more than 1,400 on Thursday.

"It's the worst thing you can do in the world," said Madrid native Feliciano Lopez. "We can live in peace, but they don't want to. Everybody is going to be nervous now."

What happened here?

Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela stunned Lleyton Hewitt 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 on Monday, ousting the two-time defending champion and advancing to the next round of the ATP/WTA Masters Series tournament.

The 24-year-old Chela reached the fourth round for the first time at Indian Wells and ended Hewitt's bid for a record third-straight title at the US$4.9 million hard-court event.

"This is one of my greatest victories," said Chela, adding his game plan was to sit back and hit groundstrokes with Hewitt.

I said the same thing when I read that our Reamonn Sluiter lost from Grosjean ...

j/k

The French man defeated the Dutchman with 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. Something which I expected.

Third round Indian Wells:

It's hot ... very hot on the court. And that's why Justine Henin was glad she could go back to the dressing room very soon. Within an hour she was done with Marrero (6-1 and 6-2).

Maria Sharapova played a good match and showed the audience she's getting better and better, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

And Kim Clijsters won't be able to play for 4 weeks.

The players are used to it.

Henman is seed #9 ... and most other seeded players (excluded Hewitt ofcourse) advance. Definitely worth to keep track with this tournament.

It seems like a good tournament and could hold a few surprises.
