I have to admit that I was starting to find the battle on the top between Venus and Serena boring after a while. Then Justine and Kim joined in and it got a lot more excited. We need at least 3 or 4 top competitors again.

Justine Henin defeated Selima Sfar with 6-1 and 7-5 to advance to the third round in the WTA tournament of Dubai. Martinez from Spain is her next opponent.

Capriati got eliminated in the second round by GReek player Eleni Daniilidou (WTA 35).

Cool

Poor Ferrero. He's been dumped out of the tournament in Marseille by unseeded Carraz of France in the 1st round. Carraz won 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.

Justine Henin crushed Martinez to advance to the semi final. She won with 6-1 and 6-0 in barely 48 minutes.

She'll face the winner of the Myskina/Shaughnessy match in the next round!

Post Williams misery continues on.

Venus Williams (second seed) was defeated 6-2 6-3 yesterday by Svetlana Kuznetsova in the Quarter-Finals at the Dubia Open. This leaves Venus with only four wins in three tournaments this year.
Kuznetsova will now play Sugiyama in the Semi-Finals.

Serena Williams is out of the Qatar Open due to a bout of the flu. Despite this set back Serena says her knee is feeling great and that she feels she's back in championship form.

Doesn't want to work out for Serena or Venus ...
I really don't think Serena can be back to her championship form. She might say this to motivate herself and get over all of her recent setbacks. It would be shocking if she would be back already to championship form as she hasn't played a single game in more than half a year ...
I read in the newspaper that Venus was spreading the word that she was feeling fantastic nad in great conditional form, then a few days later she gets eliminated by Kuznetsova (not the strongest of opponents).
With Venus out of the Dubai tournament, there's not much competition left for Justine Henin.

I'm afraid no matter what both Serena and Venus say, they still have a long way to go in order to regain their old form. Something which is completely natural if you've been out for such a long period. They can't rush things right now and should try not to overrate themselves and especially their bodies. They should slowly work towards their comeback and their best form. You first have to walk if you want to run!

I agree, they won't be able to get back into their old form with such ease. It could be that they're simply over-confident at this stage, thinking they can step out onto the court and sweep everyone aside like before, but that isn't happening at all and won't quickly. It'll be interesting to see how much they both progress once both are playing tournaments regularly again.
