Actually Beckham's representatives are saying that his preference is to stay at Man. United.
However, one of the candidates for Barcelona's new presidential position, Joan Laporta, says that he is very confident Beckham will sign for Barcelona. (This guy is also going after Henry!)

Portsmouth have signed another player. This time it's former Liverpool star Patrik Berger. He was out of contract as well. Looks like a good move for the Premiership newcomers.

It was reported yesterday that he was going to sign for Leeds....he must have changed his mind.

1. Becks = yet another offensive minded player

2. most of Real's attacking players aren't that keen on getting back and defending

3. more egos and more egos together ...

What could he possibly do there? They're already short of a ball during every match now.

Arsenal are leading the race to sign Feyenoord midfielder Brett Emerton, also interested are Newcastle and Middlesborough.

Van der Sar wants to quit Fulham to revive his international career. He believes Fulham won't win any trophies and he must move on.

Valencia have offered £32million for Daivd Trezeguet, talks have been held and the fee may increase to £42million if need be.

Leicester boss Micky Adams says he would love to sign Bobby Zamora but will not meet the asking price of £2.5milliion that Brighton want.

Portsmouth have offered Teddy Sheringham a player-coach role. At the moment it seems like Portsmouth have more money then sense and don't realise that all the players will want to play and certain players will get very unhappy.

David Beckham, Gerard Houllier and Arsene Wenger are all set to be awarded OBE's in the Queens birthday honours list which is announced later this month.

Nothing. I believe that if Beckham were to move to Madrid then he'd be a waste of space. He's not in the same class as Zidane, Figo, Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo so I doubt he'd be able to compete with them. Barcelona looks like the better place for Beckham if he were to move.

This latest transfer speculation from Man. United could be a ploy to force Beckham into signing a new contract with United, but without any wage increases ....... but I also believe that Ferguson would love to get rid of Beckham for the simple fact of his lifestyle and his wife, who controls David.

News on Beckham.

Manchester United has issued a statement confirming that clubs from Italy and Spain have "expressed a firm interest" in signing David Beckham.

The England captain has been persistently linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona and with Italian Champions League winners AC Milan.

United's statement read: "Manchester United can confirm today that clubs from Italy and Spain have expressed a firm interest in signing David Beckham.

"David's advisers, SFX, have also been approached by clubs independently and we are in regular and close contact with them regarding the status of those discussions, which are ongoing.

"David has been kept informed while on holiday."

Beckham has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford and has said he wants to stay, though the club may well be tempted to sell him if they receive a bid of something like £30m.

Reports in Spain and Italy suggest that interest from Real Madrid and Inter has cooled.

But Joan Laporta, who hopes to become Barcelona's next president, has said he would like to hire Beckham and told reporters on Saturday that his talks with Manchester United were "progressing well".
