Colombian international goalkeeper Oscar Cordoba has revealed that he could soon be an Arsenal player.

Cordoba was on loan at Turkish side Besiktas last season from Argentine club Boca Juniors.

At the end of the campaign Besiktas exercised their option to sign the goalkeeper permanently, but Cordoba said his new club are now in negotiations to sell him to Arsenal.

"I know the negotiations are going well, and that the agreement could be sealed in any moment," said Cordoba.

"I would love to play for Arsenal. It's one of the best clubs in the world and they're always fighting for big things. I've already played for big teams.

I tend to think he punches too much but I guess anything is better than getting lobbed into the net as Seaman has done.

Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien has signed a four-year contract with French champions Olympique Lyon.

Lyon snapped up the 20-year-old from fellow-French club Bastia for $8 million after Essien's rejection of a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Bastia, the club had signed an agreement with PSG but Essien was not keen on the move.

His decision to move to Lyon was apparently influenced by the prospect of playing Champions League football next season.

Chelsea are also now in a position to follow up their long-term interest in Barcelona's Patrick Kluivert and West Ham United midfield man Joe Cole.

Chelsea's name is being placed next to some of the world's most coveted transfer targets, including Arsenal pair Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira.

Also included in the Stamford Bridge speculative shopping list are AC Milan strilker Andriy Shevchenko and Juventus' Dutch international Edgar Davids.

AC Milan misfit Rivaldo has also been mentioned.

Even Ranieri himself may not be safe, as Roma coach Fabio Capello has been touted as the man Abramovich wants as Chelsea boss.
