Default Should Footballers Retire at the top?

Beleaguered goalkeeper David Seaman insists he will not step down from international football.

Should footballers quit while they're ahead? Or are old heads worth more than young bones?

It was a blunder from 39-year-old Seaman that gifted footballing minnows Macedonia the lead in their Euro 2004 qualifier against England last month.

Artim Sakiri scored direct from a corner to leave Seaman shaking his head - and critics asking whether the time had come for him to retire from international football.

The goal was reminiscent of Ronaldinho's looping World Cup free-kick, which sailed over the hapless Seaman's head.

Striker Alan Shearer took the opposite stance after England's Euro 2000 campaign, announcing his retirement from England to concentrate on League football with Newcastle.

Should more players retire on a high?

I agree. You might as well go out on a good note then through scandel or anything else.

I feel they should go when they feel it is time, but then again it is always nice to go out on the top, who whouldn't.

But what if you reach the top of the sport when you are 25 then what do you do?

most love the sport so much, that is too hard too leave, and they tend to go on too long, but if they are happy to still be in the game, i don't see why should they retire - if they not good enough the onus is on the managers and coaches to drop them.

I think in Seamans case, it is hard seeing as everyone is blaming him.
