Shevchenko named European footballer of the year! - Eternal Allegiance

Andriy Shevchenko was named as European Footballer of the Year on Monday. Shevchenko beat off competition from Brazilian midfielder Deco, a Champions League winner with Porto last season, and Barcelona's Brazilian star Ronaldinho to win the prestigious award.

Known as the Ballon D'Or (Golden Ball), the prize was created by the French football magazine France Football in 1956. Voting is undertaken by a group of European football journalists.

Juventus' Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved won the award last year.

Why wasnt it Thierry Henry?

He's a great player, Tho I was hopeing Henry to win, and he got fucking 4th place.. oh well.

Deco got there because Porto won the CL final and the league but he isnt that great to me. Henry didnt do enough in the CL. Its all about the CL.

Ofcourse it's all about the CL, the best teams/players are in that competition. And let's be honest ... Arsenal don't always do well there and Milan always get pretty far. I know it sounds pretty weird, but I guess that's the reason why Shevchenko ended first and why Deco is in the top 3.
