AS Roma captain Francesco Totti has threatened to leave at the end of the season if the club do not make quality summer signings, the Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Wednesday. Totti, who has played his entire career at Roma, has issued an ultimatum to club president Franco Sensi.
"My priority is to remain here but we need a competitive team, capable of fighting for the national title," Totti said.
Roma's golden boy has advised officials to buy at least four quality players - France's Philippe Mexes, Czech Republic's Marek Jankulowski, Dutchman Edgar Davids and particularly Christian Vieri.
Totti wants guarantees from his club by the end of Euro 2004 in July.
"I want to know, by my return from Portugal, what is exactly happening and who is staying, who is leaving because it will be too late for me to do anything after that," he added.
Totti said if he doesn't receive assurances, he would be ready to leave but added he would not go to another Italian club out of respect for Roma.
"In my mind I'm only thinking of Real Madrid," he added. "Not England because English football doesn't interest me." |
