Unhappy The Passing of a Legend

Last night, Jack Buck passed away. Jack Buck is a member of the baseball and football Halls of Fame. He has announced games in hockey, football, basketball and baseball. But he is most known for his legacy in the world of baseaball broadcasting.

He called Kirk Gibson's famous homerun against Dennis Eckersley. "I don't believe what I just saw!"

He called one of the most famous moments in St. Louis Cardinals history: Ozzie Smith's game winning home run against the Dodgers in the 1985 playoffs. "Go crazy, folks! Go crazy!"

He was, is, and and will always be the voice of the Cardinals and some say he is the greatest Cardinal of them all.

For the rest of the season, the St. Louis Cardinals will wear black sweatbands with the initials J.F.B.

This is a true loss not only for the city of St. Louis and the St. Louis Cardinals, but the game of baseball and sports in general. Listening to tributes to him on KMOX radio this afternoon, I was choked up. I almost couldn't help but cry. This is very sad.

Jack Francis Buck
1924-2002

He will be missed.

Dude, that sucks. Nick, you've just been having bad luck lately, eh? I wish you good luck and I hope you will be able to get over the fact that he's gone. Just remember the good times you saw on TV - okay?

Raiden: I haven't heard that call. Was that on radio? Because I've seen that game on ESPN Classics and I don't remember that call. I think my greatest memory was from when he read his poem on September 17 last year the first night MLB resumed play. That was an all-time classic moment.

Errick: Yup. It has been some bad luck. But I can get over it.

What was the poem like?

Sorry, I don't watch baseball all that often.

And yea, you'll be able to get over it. You're a good kid, and everyone gets the blues sometimes.

The poem was about the country and it was about how everyone needed to get back to their business and their daily routines. It was also about how America will win the fight and win the battle and the unwanted war. Basically, it was a speech of patriotism.
