Steven Tyler, James Taylor, Kelly Clarkson & Donna Summer To Perform At Fenway Park
Aerosmith's lead singer Steven Tyler and FOX American Idol Winner Kelly Clarkson will sing the National Anthem and God Bless America, respectively, at Game One of the 2004 World Series at Fenway Park in Boston. Grammy award winners James Taylor and Donna Summer will sing the National Anthem and God Bless America, respectively, at Game Two.
One of rock's all-time most charismatic and entertaining personalities, Tyler moved to Boston in the late 1960s where the band Aerosmith was formed. The band became a regional sensation and by the mid-1970s was a national smash hit. Aerosmith won Grammy Awards for "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" in 1990, 1993, 1994 and 1998 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
Five-time Grammy Award winner James Taylor will perform the U.S. National Anthem prior to Game Two. Taylor has earned 40 gold, platinum, and multi-platinum awards for his timeless catalog of music. Taylor's first Greatest Hits album earned him the RIAA's elite Diamond Award, given for sales in excess of 10 million units in the United States. He was honored with the 1998 Century Award, Billboard magazine's highest accolade, bestowed for distinguished creative achievement. He also was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the prestigious Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2000.
Clarkson, the winner of FOX television's first American Idol: The Search for a Superstar competition went from an anonymous talent to a nationally known singer performing for millions of viewers. The Burleson, TX native won the first American Idol contest with 58 percent of the audience vote. Her first single, "A Moment Like This," was released just two weeks after she won the contest and quickly earned platinum sales. Clarkson's self-titled full-length album was released in spring 2003.
Summer, a five-time Grammy Winner and native of the Mission Hill section of Boston, will perform God Bless America during Game Two. Known for such hits as "Love to Love You Baby," "Last Dance," "MacArthur Park," "Bad Girls," and "Hot Stuff," Summer's Grammy Awards include "Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female" (1978), "Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female" (1979), "Best Inspirational Performance" (1983), "Best Inspirational Performance" (1984) and the first-ever Grammy for "Best Dance Recording" (1997).
