| Wes Brown hopes to be back in training with the first team within the next two weeks.
Wes has been out of action since breaking his ankle just six miutes into the season, and since the 1-0 defeat to Zalaegerszeg he's been stuck in the gym. Those days are nearly at an end.
"I've been doing a lot of work in the gym, and I've started working with the ball again now, so hopefully I'll be back in training in a couple of weeks," Wes told MUTV on Thursday.
"It's nice to be able to do a bit of running outside now. It does you head in being stuck in a gym all day, so getting some fresh air is a nice change."
However, Wes isn't setting himself any specific first team game to return in. He'll just be happy to play whenever he feels fit.
"I haven't got a target, I'll just come back when I'm ready," he said.
"I'll play a couple of Reserve team games to get match fit and take it from there."
While Wes has been out, John O'Shea has wrested the title of Great Young Defender off him. Wes had high hopes for this season, but those were dashed before the season had properly begun.
"I had a great experience at the World Cup, I was just happy to be there as part of the squad. I thought if I had a good start to the season it would go on from there, but I got injured in the first game!" he smiled ruefully.
"That put me behind again, and all I can do is get fit and start all over again. I've just got to keep my head up." |

| Ryan Giggs is set to make his 500th appearance for United at the weekend, and will hope to mark the milestone with a goal.
And because of Giggsy' recent goalscoring record, it's quite likely that he'll score as it's an away game.
In the last four seasons, Ryan has scored as many or more goals away from home than he has at the Theatre of Dreams. Last season, three of his six goals were scored on the road, while in 2001/02 seven of his nine strikes were scored away.
2001/02 saw him score just one of his seven goals at Old Trafford - just 14%. The season before, only a third of his goals came at home.
"Of my last twenty league goals, I think nineteen have been away from home," he admitted to Manchester United magazine recently.
"Probably the main reason I'm getting criticised is that this season, and maybe over the last season as well, is that my performances away have been better thank at home.
"I never get stick off the fans who go week-in, week-out. Perhaps my biggest critics are season ticket holders at Old Trafford because maybe I've not produced my best form at home. But I'm quite happy that I'm playing my best away, because I think that's a lot harder to do," he said.
Ryan has not scored a league goal at Old Trafford since 14 April 2001, against Coventry City, but the myth that he has a better scoring record on road is just that.
The Welshman has in fact scored 53 of his career goals at Old Trafford, which represents 51% of his total, and in his first nine seasons in the first team, on just one occasion did his away strike rate overtake that at home.
With a scoring rate of one goal every five games, we don't care where you score them, Ryan. As long as the goals keep coming, we'll be happy! |
