Berti Vogts is set to reveal the players he believes will be crucial to the future of Scottish international football.
The national manager will announce the first Scotland Future Team squad on Friday - and they will start with a tough meeting with Germany at the Bruchweg Stadium in Mainz on Tuesday 17 December.
Among those being tipped for a call-up for what is essentially a B international are:
Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Kenny Miller
Portsmouth strikers Mark Burchill and Kevin Harper
Dunfermline Athletic defender Scott Wilson and midfield team-mate Barry Nicholson
Hibernian midfielder Ian Murray
Newcastle United defender Stephen Caldwell
Bristol City winger Scott Murray
Wigan Athletic striker Andy Liddell
Former Celtic striker Burchill is back in the running after putting a nightmare time with injuries behind him.
"I know I can play at that level and I must keep my name in Berti's mind by scoring goals regularly," he said.
"I'd jump at the chance to play for Scotland again.
"I'd hate to think that half-a-dozen caps - five as a substitute - were my limit"
The Futures Team is designed to give players on the fringes of the main Scotland squad the opportunity to prove themselves against top-class opposition.
Their match against Germany is part of a four-team tournament involving Scotland, Germany, Turkey and Czech Republic that will be played over the next year and a half.
Further fixtures include Turkey away on 25 February and Czech Republic at home on 20 May.
Meanwhile, Don Hutchison has given Vogts' first-team plans a boost by being in line for starting place for West Ham United against Southampton on Monday.
The forward has successfully come through a couple of reserve games after his long spell on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament injury.
Teenage Hibernian striker Garry O'Connor is also ahead of schedule in his comeback from a broken bone in his foot and will have the plaster removed on Monday. |
