The Mexican Football Federation has handed internationals Aaron Galindo and Salvador Carmona one-year bans, after the duo tested positive for a banned substance.

Both players were expelled from last month's Confederation Cup in Germany after the UCLA Analytical Laboratory of Los Angeles confirmed drug tests carried out before the international competition had revealed positive for a banned anabolic steroid (similar to nandrolone).

The coach of popular Mexican football club Cruz Azul is feared to have been abducted on Tuesday after being taken away at gunpoint following a training session yesterday.

Following a team practice, Rubén Omar Romano was reportedly wrestled into a vehicle by unidentified men and has not been seen or heard from since.

"They tell us there was a problem -- five people arrived, they forced him from the van (Romano's gray-colored BMW van) and took him away in another vehicle," said Cruz Azul vice president Alfredo Álvarez.

PSV Eindhoven trainer Guus Hiddink attended the WC 1998 as trainer of Holland. In 2002 he led South-Korea to the Semi-Finals and now he's the new coach of Australia!

If Australia is able to win a play-off against #5 of South-America they'll participate at the WC 2006 and Guus Hiddink will be their coach. For those who worry, he remains PSV coach as well.

Ex-Japan, Qatar and Marseille coach Philippe Troussier was named head coach of Nigeria's national team on Saturday, marking the coach's second tour of duty with the perennial African powers.

Nigeria, who are currently trailing Angola on head-to-head with two games to go in their World Cup qualifying campaign, will look to make a run for Germany 2006.

You did hear this didn't go through in the end, right? I believe it had to do with personal problems ...

Go Ireland

Juventus’ Alessandro Del Piero looks likely to be included in Italy’s squad for next week’s friendly against the Republic of Ireland.

The club captain hasn’t appeared for the national side in the past 11 months, but whispers suggest he will be selected for Wednesday’s Dublin test.
