Dutch commentator: "If you want to finish 1st, you first have to finish".

Only 2 retirements and Kimi Raikkonen who was driving to his next win. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, the last lap! At least, he still finished 11th.

Gert-Jan - 7

Total Points After European GP
1. Neil. 113.
2. Gert-Jan. 85.
3. Lizzy. 66.
4. Chris. 24.

I am fast becoming like Alonso! After all the incidents during the race, I wasn't expecting a high total, so 17 is quite a nice total. I think Chris wants to be removed from the standings as his internet keeps going down, but he says it should be back very soon, so I'll leave him there for now.

It's a shame that Alonso and Raikkonen weren't very far ahead of the rest of the field as then Raikkonen might have picked up a few points. I classified him as 'DNF' in the predictions as he didn't finish cross the start-finish line, like the other drivers did.

David Coulthard has admitted he is looking to extend his current contract with Red Bull Racing into 2006. The former McLaren driver who was released after nine years with the Woking-based outfit initially joined Red Bull – formerly Jaguar Racing – on a one year contract. I'm absolutely thinking in terms of staying here," he was quoted as saying in Autosport.

"We're five months on from the start of the relationship and five months from the end of the current contract. As long as I still have the desire and the talent and ability there's no reason to stop, and I will give my commitment to the team for as long as they continue to give it to me."

.. and now it is time to up-to-date in here:

Quote:
As ETA is currently offline, for whatever reason, I've set-up this thread to keep the F1 Prediction League going! Qualifying is due to start at 18:00 GMT, so make sure you have your prediction for pole in by then (roughly)

I was just going to send you my prediction through mail, when I noticed yours. We have the same thing on our minds this weekend: F1 Canada!

Pole Prediction:
K Raikkonen

In case the forum is still down by tomorrow, I'll post my predictions for the race here as well. I have a feeling it's going to be close between Raikkonen and Alonso.

*keeps fingers crossed*

We must be able to read each others minds!

19. P.Friesacher. 1:19.574
20. R.Barrichello. DNQ.

Quite a shake-up from the last race.. Button and Schumacher on the front row - I expect you could have gotten great odds on that happening. Seeing as Ferrari were mostly off the pace in practice, I have a feeling Schumacher has gone for a lighter fuel-load .. and we all know how the Bridgestone tyres react during a race!

Alonso will be pleased to be ahead of Raikkonen and it's nice to see Fisichella in a high position. Raikkonen's slightly slow time can be (partly) put down to going out earlier than his main rivals, but I would have still expected him to be a bit faster. Maybe the McLarens are fat with fuel, which could play into their hands as the race unfolds.

Williams - oh dear.. This weekend might be one to forget for them.

Albers - fantastic! A Minardi in 15th and ahead of Klien on merit.

Prediction League
Pole - J.Button

Points gained lost -

Gert-Jan - 3
Neil - 3

Unfortunately, my memory can't remember the exact scores as they were! .. so we'll have to wait until ETA is back online to update the table.

Michael Schumacher/Ferrari does seem to have another qualification strategy. Less fuel, but on the 1st row. The race will show us how they're gonna do it this time. What was wrong with Barrichello's car?

I'm pretty sure Alonso feels good on 3rd place, as long as he's in front of his World Title competitors.

Christijan Albers

Again .. can't update the table yet! Lizzy is fortunate in that she hasn't really lost any ground on us, but that is another race weekend past us. 11 left this season.

Uhm, I don't think those points are correct. I should get 2 (Raikkonen) + 6 (Schumacher) + 1 (Karthikeyan) + 1 (Friesacher) =

10 points

I thought it was a pretty good race. But it's very difficult to predict this year. What's your opinion on the Montoya situation?

Gert-Jan - you're correct, I made a mistake with the points! You have 10 and I have 9 .. sorry for the mistake.

No problem, anyone can make a mistake. I have a feeling we're not going to score as many points as we did last year.

During Friday's 2nd Practice, Ralf Schumacher crashed again at the same point as he did last year. The McLarens look very strong again and I don't think my prediction for today is a big surprise.

Pole Prediction:
K Raikkonen

Fridays Practice Times
1. J.P.Montoya. 1:11.118
2. K.Raikkonen. 1:11.228

14. C.Klien. 1:12.664
15. J.Button. 1:12.803
16. T.Sato. 1:13.037
17. J.Villeneuve. 1:13.079
18. R.Doornbos. 1:13.361

21. C.Albers. 1:13.963
22. N.Karthikeyan. 1:14.008
23. T.Monteiro. 1:14.336.
24. R.Schumacher. No Time.

I expect to see a McLaren win this weekend, unless they have problems during the race. The McLarens have been fast throughout all practice sessions so far, but the rest of the big team (meaning everyone but Minardi and Jordan) have had mixed fortunes. Renault were high in PS1, but then Ferrari were in PS2 .. BAR were high in PS1, but slipped heavily during PS2. I don't think we'll get a fair impression of which other teams will score highly until part-way into the race tommorow!

Minardi seem to be getting the upper hand on Jordan.

During Saturdays 1st PS, only 8 drivers set times. Montoya was over a second faster than anyone else, with the Ferraris 2nd and 3rd. David Coulthard was the only other driver from a big team to set a time .. and both Jordans were faster than the Minardis again

Jordan seem to have got their edge back over Minardi.

Ralf to miss GP following crash
Ralf Schumacher is to miss tommorows American GP under medical advice, following his high speed crash yesterday. There isn't anything significantly wrong with Ralf, but doctors have warned that the risk of another high speed impact so soon after his one on Friday is not a risk worth taking. Ricardo Zonta will take his place for the race tommorow.

The way the field looks pretty mixed up after Saturdays second practice session makes me think that this could be another exciting race! McLaren still look strong with Raikkonen setting the fastest time. Renault and BAR are near the top again in what is arguably the practice session that gives us the best impression of what might happen during the race. Ferrari and Toyota also look strong enough to challenge for high points finishing .. but for the second race running Williams seem to have lost their European form.

Fisichella, Alonso, Button, Sato and Montoya - they will ALL be compromised during qualification. Raikkonen and Schumacher are the two drivers I think are most likely to get pole. Will Schumacher employ a low fuel strategy again and pip Raikkonen? .. or will the McLarens pace show through!? Hmmmmm..

Pole Prediction:
M.Schumacher.

American Grand Prix Qualifying
1. J.Trulli. 1:10.625
2. K.Raikkonen. 1:10.694
3. J.Button. 1:11.277
4. G.Fisichella. 1:11.290
5. M.Schumacher. 1:11.369
6. F.Alonso. 1:11.380
7. R.Barrichello. 1:11.431
8. T.Sato. 1:11.497
9. M.Webber. 1:11.527
10. F.Massa. 1:11.555
11. J.P.Montoya. 1:11.681
12. J.Villeneuve. 1:11.691
13. R.Zonta. 1:11.754
14. C.Klien. 1:12.132
15. N.Heidfeld. 1:12.430
16. D.Coulthard. 1:12.682
17. T.Monteiro. 1:13.462
18. C.Albers. 1:13.632
19. N.Karthikeyan. 1:13.776
20. P.Friesacher. 1:14.494

Raikkonen seemed to have pole position in his grasp, but it slipped away during the final sector. It still remains to be seen whether Trulli is running on a light fuel strategy or not. His teammate is down in 13th, but then we have to take into account Zontas recent lack of racing experience. Renault, BAR and Ferrari look like they'll be string during the race, with Williams still off the pace. From 2nd place I can see Raikkonen getting into the 1st corner ahead of Trulli and, if last week is anything to go by, BAR and Renault could occupy 3rd to 6th.

Prediction League
Pole - J.Trulli

0 points gained.
