Default English Premiership 2004-2005

Okay, it may still be 2 weeks away, but this thread has to be up already.

One of the most entertaining and exciting competitions:

The Premier League

Arsenal:
Their mission is probably to continue winning. How long can they remain without a loss ...
Robin van Persie joined the team and so far he has played really well.

Chelsea:
All the transfers here are well-known. Roman Abramovich spend some millions again and we'll see where it leads him and Chelsea. Maybe the title this year?

Manchester United:
My favorite English team. Okay GJ, stay objective in this first post ...

Hopefully Van The Man has a better season than last year. It was good, but he can better.

Liverpool:

Most of the time a good team, but able to really win something? Nope. Everyone's focussing on Michael Owen. Another CL season would be nice for them.

Newcastle United:

Bobby Robson and his team got UEFA Cup ... close. But they made it and with Partrick Kluivert in the team they have another good striker.

Norwich, Crystal Palace, WBA:
The teams which got promoted.

Alright people, you name it ... who's gonna take the title this year? And FA Cup? And the League Cup?

Matches, results, ranking ... everything about the English competition can be posted here!

2 weeks to go.

Yaaaay, only 15 days until kick-off! I'm very excited by the quality of the players that have been brought in by clubs over the summer. Plenty of new faces and plenty of faces we'll recoognise from Euro 2004. I think I'll enjoy watching Match Of The Day very much this season. (pity I don't have Sky Sports, though)

Here goes a bold top 5 prediction:

1. Man. United
2. Chelsea
3. Arsenal
4. Liverpool
5. Birmingham (Middlesbrough/Newcastle/Charlton)

Arsenal will most definitely be the team to beat this season and due to that fact (and that I don't think this run can't last much longer) I think they'll get beaten, then again and again.. The squads of the mid-table teams are getting much stronger and with that in mind, maybe the gap to the top teams will become a little bit smaller. Arsenal and Chelsea will no doubt be two teams to beat for these mid-table teams .. Manchester United too, but I don't think as much anymore. They're not being backed as favourites for the title and it seems as though people don't see them as quite the threat Arsenal and Chelsea are. I think that'll work to United's advantage over the season to give them a 9th Premiership title.

I'm still not so keen on Liverpool, but I'd back them for another top 5 finish. As for the last top 5 place, any one of many teams could grab it this season. The additions Birmingham and Middlesbrough have made make them big contenders. Newcastle and Charlton should be up there as well.

..and the bottom 5:

16. Portsmouth
17. West Brom
18. Everton
19. Norwich
20. Crystal Palace

As much as I'd like the promoted teams to do well, I think they'll all struggle. West Brom do have the added advantage of already having recent Premiership experience from 2 seasons ago, so that could just work in their favour to keep them afloat. Everton don't look in great shape at all. I think after last season they could be in for an even worse time. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw Fulham, Portsmouth and Blackburn joining the party at the bottom, or Manchester City again for that matter.

You know what, this calls for another thread relating to the Premiership.

i am not a big van-the-man-fan. but i do hope for good things to come from MUFC. Newcastle has bought some decent guys hey? Kluivert and Butt, so that will definitely propel them. Liverpool have a new exciting coach, so look out for good things there.

FOr me, alot of Arsenals chances will depend on Vieira staying or leaving. If he does go, the spirit of the camp may be hugely affected. But no-one is greater than the team, so they should survive without him.

Neil your top 5 is fucked up.

any way I am sure the title will be a fight with arsenal manu and chelsea ( if chelsea plays as they did last season ). and manu a bit better .
I dont think arsenal will end 3rd but most likely 2nd and chelsea 3rd and well manu first but with a close game against arsenal. it seems like they switch on wining the league now.

I agree on the top 4. As for the fifth place, lots of teams can end there. I'd like to see Middlesbrough there.

I'd put Manchester City in the bottom 5 and leave Portsmouth out.

It's going to be a very exciting battle for 5th place .. and even more exciting if one of the top 4 were to slip into their grasp!

I think it sounds like she is taking it for granted that they will get first place.

Gert-Jan, I cant see Boro there. Reiziger will probably miss the start of the season. I would love to see Newcastle win something as this is Alan Shearers and Bobby Robsons last year.
