The United party were heading home after the game but there was no respite in a heavy schedule.

They are due to face PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford on Tuesday in the Vodafone Cup. Phil Bardsley slotted in at right-back today with Silvestre on the left in a strong United team.

Milan started the game at a fast pace and captain Paolo Maldini headed wide from a good position.

But United should have had a penalty after six minutes when Paul Scholes was tripped by Maldini. However, referee Kevin Stott waved play on to the astonishment of the big crowd.

United were forced on the back foot after 12 minutes, only for Andrea Pirlo to fire wide from just outside the area. Pirlo then released Andriy Shevchenko but goalkeeper Tim Howard raced out and did enough to put him off.

United were struggling to get into their stride and Kaka strode forward and rattled in 25-yard shot that went narrowly over the top. Giggs got away in the 18th minute only to send a soft cross into the arms of goalkeeper Nelson Dida.

Milan rallied and Hernan Crespo, on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea, tried to turn Gary Neville but the England defender stood firm. Play broke down the other end and Brown got away from his marker only to head over the top following a cross from Giggs.

Milan were playing with a degree of confidence and Gennaro Gattuso tried to send Massimo Ambrosini clear only to slightly over-hit the pass. United made the breakthrough in the 33rd minute following a mistake by Alessandro Nesta.

He directed a cross from Bellion straight into the path of Scholes. It was a gilt-edged chance for the midfielder and he wasted no time in rattling a shot beyond Dida.

Milan were stung after having the majority of possession in the game. Scholes, who scored 12 goals last season, nearly added a second three minutes later but his effort ended in the side netting.

This was a fine spell of pressure by United and Giggs found himself in a good position but failed to take advantage.

Woah I thought that was the final score... but not!

Man Utd lost 9-8 on penalties, Tim Howard missed the penalty at the end!

Here is some info on it:

Winger Arjen Robben could possibly miss the start of the season as he waits to see the extent of the ankle injury after the Roma clash.

Roma's former Leeds and Everton midfielder Olivier Dacourt was the man who did the damage as Robben was hurt following a nasty challenge during Chelsea's 3-0 friendly victory in the United States.

The Dutch winger reacted furiously to Dacourt's tackle, along with Mateja Kezman and the Serb was sent off after his altercation with the Frenchman.

Robben said: "I twisted my ankle and we'll have to wait and see how it is but it doesn't feel good.

"The tackle from Dacourt made me stumble and that's when I twisted it.

"I was past him and he kicked me and to do that in a friendly match is not great"

That was just sooo annoying to have Milan equalise with seconds left, but at least it's only a friendly. Maybe no wins so far in pre-season will make the players even more hungry for wins once the Premiership starts.

Roma beat Celtic by one goal to nil yesterday too.

Celtic and Man Utd have had very poor preseason tournaments. We have to improve and lets hope that happens in the Vodafone Cup.

It can quite often be that the teams that have good pre-season's start off the proper season with form that isn't quite as good. *looks in the direction of Arsenal and Chelsea and hopes* hehe.

Chelsea 2-3 AC MIlan
Chelsea were twice in front, with goals from Gudjohnsen and Drogba in the first half. A wonderful piece of Brazilian skill from Cafu pulled Milan back to 1-1 between Chelesa's goals - if you haven't seen that goal, do so! - with Costacurta equalising in the last 15 minutes. Shevchenko drilled a free-kick low past Cudicini - who didn't see it coming - to give Milan the win in the final few minutes.
