Default Carling Cup 2006-2007!

Isn't this a little odd... this thread is being started after the Cup has begun!

Monday 21st August
Accrington 1-0 Nottingham Forest

First cup match of the season .. first cup shock of the season! Accrington were the better side tonight and deserved to win. The goal wasn't good by any means, but it was vital! Forest didn't really look capable of scoring tonight, which makes you wonder how they're 2nd (on GD) in Division 2 right now.

Plenty more matches tommorow evening!

Too many to list here.

Bury 2-0 Sunderland

Oh dear oh dear oh dear...

Bury are the bottom club in the Football League. Didn't I say Sunderland for the Conference!?

9 matches went to extra-time tonight, with a further 5 going all the way to the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Ipswich, Colchester, Stoke, Burnley, Cardiff, Plymouth, Coventry and Crystal Palace all fell to lower league opposition! Maybe this is a case of the D1 clubs not placing such a high priority on the Carling Cup .. or maybe the 3 Football Leauges are a bit closer than thought.

There were some real shockers! I see now Niall Quinn is going back to chairman and has promised "a top world class manager will be in place by the West Brom game"

I think that the lower league teams go for it more, it means so much more to them.

I'm thinking that as well. That, in combination with the fact that the big clubs don't give the Carling Cup a high priority.

It does make Cup Football interesting though.

Top Division 1 sides mosty likely see the Premiership as a much bigger cash injection to aim for!

Wednesday 23rd August
Chesterfield 0-0 Wolves ... Chesterfield won 6-5 on penalties!
Torquay Utd 0-2 Norwich City
Southampton 5-2 Yeovil Town
Sheffield Wed 1-4 Wrexham
Port Vale 2-1 Preston
Brighton 1-0 Boston Utd

I count 12 Division 1 sides have been knocked out during this round

Tommorow sees West Brom visit Leyton Orient .. another shock!?
