Default Australian Open 2003

Since there are some people here who also like tennis, I decided to make a thread about the 1st Grand Slam tournament.

First, there are talks going on that the Australian Open should go to March instead of January. The players (for example Andre Agassi) think it comes to soon in the year. "You can't prepare good", he says.
What do you all think, January or March ??

Our Dutch man Sjeng Schalken (he reached the quarter final on Wimbledon last year and the semi's on the US Open ) is through. He beated Brasington.

1st round.....Jennifer Capriati is out!!
She lost from Weingartner with 6-2, 6-7, 4-6

Justine Henin is through and so is........

Anna Kournikova

Cool

Do my eyes decieve me or did you just say that Anna Kornikova got past the first round!

Finally! She decides to play some good tennis ..... congrats to her and congrats to Henin.

I don't mind whether the Australian open is played in January or March, but if the players feel it should be moved then I definitely think it should be seriously consdiered.

BTW - Thanks for making this therad Gert-Jan, I may have forgottern that there was an open being played!

Depends on who she is playing really ......... I'd love her to put out one of the Williams sisters!

I really should take a look at who the Brits are playing .........

British women's tennis isn't really at a very high standard at the moment anyway. Who did she lose to?

I couldn't find either of the big two British men's players in the draw anywhere! It appears neither are playing for some reason.

Henman and Rudeski will indeed not be playing. Why.....not sure. Probably an injury.

Anna is through indeed, she deserves it! But.........next round against Justine Henin. It would be quite sensational if Anna can kick her out.

Kim Clijsters, Serena and Venus are all through. Serena needed 3 sets and she got 2 matchpoints against her!! But as usual......she won.

Clijsters makes the best impression on me to win the tournament.

Serena almost lost today, I was watching on ESPN2. Luckily she came back and won. Jennifer Capriati I can't believe lost in the 1st round.
Go Anna Kournikova!!!! Yeah they should play it in March. Its too early for a major to be played.
