the way to look at it is that if people are stupid enough to pay u millions to do something u love, then who's gonna say no?...........no-one will.
Footballers are overpaid, SEVERELY overpaid, BUT they are extremely talented, that's why they are professionals, i could never be a professional footballer, even though i'm a decent player, i could never do what a top class professional does. they aren't just paid to be footballers they are also paid to be celebrities, look at David Beckham for example, people forget he's a footballer sometimes, cos he spends more time in the celebrity gossip publications.
Football isn't silly or pathetic, it is an event that unites billions of people worldwide in many forms, it evokes passion, sadness, happiness, anger, jealousy etc...every emotion u can think of u can get from a football game...obviously not everyone likes football, but only a football fan knows the true emotion that 1 kick of a ball can bring to a person.......joy from a football game can be, and in my opinion IS one of the greatest feelings u can ever experience.
as far as the poor go, that is up to the footballer themself to donate to charity or something similar, and a lot of them do that, football clubs are heavily involved with charities, but it's not as well documented as it should be, but that could be seen as mainly down to the media.
