Actually, when you're decapitated, you are still alive for a few moments after your head is detached. For example, on a Guillotine (sp?) if your head is chopped off, and rolls in the right direction, you can actually look up and see your body laying their head-less for a few moments, while your head is in the basket below. You wont be able to feel anything, because your nervous system is shut down, but you can still see and hear things for a minute or two after you are decapitated.
