Flaming Angry I Can't Breathe

Winds continue to push smoke over city

CALGARY -- Fires burning in southern Alberta and in B.C. have blanketed Calgary with thick smoke and it could last for a few more days.

Environment Canada weather briefer Bill McMurtry says winds will continue to push smoke over the city and today could actually be the worst day for smoky conditions.

He says the smoke could last until Sunday and is expected to be blown out of Calgary by Sunday.

Environment Canada meteorologist Dan Kulak says the smoke from the B.C. and Alberta fires can affect weather around the globe and commerce.

He told a radio talk show today (Rutherford-CHQR/CHED) that even passengers in airliners are smelling the smoke as they fly over the provinces.

Kulak says satellite pictures show smoke is drifting from Western Canada's forest fires to Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and northern Idaho and Montana.
