Goldberg was the attempt to regain the lead, not the reason of the gain. The reason of the gain was the original nWo's arrival, which brought people over. When Hogan turned, all eyes were on WCW. This was 1996 to early 1998. When they started to lose ratings, they relied on rookie Bill Goldberg to take the heat, and he did around late 1998 to mid 2000.. but then WWF had their "attitude" shit going, and it was really too late.
