Well, i think the taboo of eating cats and dogs is more cultural than anything else. I myself am a recovered vegetarian . I found that the faux burgers and things like that were disgusting. I would much rather have the real deal. I don't have a problem with killing animals for food as long as the whole animal is used. I am against wasteful killing like killing elephants just for their tusks. But, with cows, we use the hide, meat, and bones. I don't think that being a veggie makes you necessarily healthier, after all you could eat French Fries all day and still call yourself a vegetarian. As for being vegan, if you can do it more power to you, i know i can't. Animal products are in alot of things that you would never suspect like Jello or multivitamins. I personally don't care if someone is a vegetarian or vegan or whatever. Just as long as you don't preach to me when i eat a burger or try to throw paint on my fur coat.
