Hey guys! Here's more info on the matches set so far for Vengeance, including a match that was just added today, Randy Orton vs. Kurt Angle. Enjoy!

Championship Match
June 25th, 2006

Rob Van Dam utilized his homefield advantage perfectly at ECW One Night Stand and as a result, he walked away as the new Champion. But, he may not have been able to accomplish that feat without the help of the Rated R Superstar, Edge.

Edge, who was already established as the No. 1 contender thanks to a victory over Big Show, showed up from out of nowhere at One Night Stand and speared John Cena through a table. Since it was an ECW Rules Match, it was legal. Then, with both referees knocked out, Paul Heyman came to the ring to make the three count. Even though Heyman wasn’t a licensed official, since it was ECW Rules, that was legal as well. Edge’s hatred for Cena was so great, that he couldn’t bear to see him walk out of the Hammerstein Ballroom with the WWE Championship.

Now, Edge will face the man he helped win the gold at Vengeance. Will Edge be able to regain the Championship and bring the gold back to RAW, or will Rob Van Dam show the Rated R Superstar that he’s not extreme enough to be the champ? Don’t miss Vengeance on June 24th at 8/7 CT to find out.

D-Generation X vs. Spirit Squad
June 25th, 2006

For the first time since the Attitude era, the original D-Generation X is back, but Mr. McMahon wants nothing more than to send them back into the annals of sports-entertainment history. In an attempt to rid RAW of the defiant duo, Mr. McMahon has set up a 5 on 2 Handicap Match between DX and the Spirit Squad.

The Spirit Squad has already taken out Shawn Michaels once before. But it was when they tried to do the same damage to Triple H, that the group reunited and foiled their plans. After Triple H embarrassed Mr. McMahon by not joining the Kiss My Ass Club and giving the Chairman a Pedigree, the Spirit Squad tried to punish The Game in a 5 on 1 Gauntlet Match. But HBK shockingly made the save, and after disposing of all five members of the Squad, the Showstopper and the King of Kings reunited.

To cap things off they looked they stared down the Chairman and delivered a series of double crotch chops. As if Mr. McMahon wasn’t enraged enough, Triple H put the icing on the cake when he climbed the ropes and mooned the Chairman.

Will DX still be laughing after Vengeance, or will the Chairman put HBK and Triple H back on the Highway to Hell? Don’t miss Vengeance on June 24th at 8/7 CT to find out.

Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Match
June 25th, 2006

At Vengeance, Shelton Benjamin will face both a new foe and an old foe when he defends the Intercontinental Championship against Carlito and Johnny Nitro in a Triple Threat Match.

The rivalry between Carlito and Benjamin stretches back nearly a year. In his first match on RAW after the 2005 Draft Lottery, Carlito defeated Benjamin to win the Intercontinental Championship. The two stayed at each other’s throats for months, with Carlito later defeating Benjamin to earn a spot on Team RAW at Survivor Series.

Meanwhile, Nitro has only been on a RAW for a few weeks, registering his first RAW victory over Charlie Haas on June 5th. However, much like Carlito did with both the United States and Intercontinental Championships, Nitro won the WWE Tag Team Championship in his very first match on SmackDown last year.

On the June 12th RAW, Nitro took on Carlito with Benjamin on commentary. Benjamin said that it takes two men to even compete with him, thus the Triple Threat Match. But after his recent loss to Carlito in a non-title match, Benjamin showed some bias against him. As Carlito was ready to hit Nitro with the Back Cracker, Benjamin held onto Nitro, saving him from the maneuver, and leading to a Nitro win. But at Vengeance, Benjamin will have to worry about himself because he doesn’t even have to be involved in the decision to lose the Intercontinental Championship.

Will Carlito or Nitro’s streak continue on June 25th, or will the most athletic Superstar on RAW hang on to his championship gold?

Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton
June 25th, 2006

The history between Randy Orton and Kurt Angle dates back to this past April when both were on SmackDown. However, on June 25th at Vengeance, RAW’s Orton will face ECW’s Angle at Vengeance.

After Angle made Orton tap out to the Ankle Lock at ECW One Night Stand, the Legend Killer issued the challenge for Vengeance the next night on RAW. Saying that he had fought Angle on ECW turf, he demanded that the Wrestling Machine agree to a match in a WWE ring with WWE rules. Orton then asked Todd Grisham to spread the word.

Indeed he did, and at the Vengeance Press Conference on June 13th Grisham announced that Angle had accepted the challenge and the match was on. Orton then took the podium, and the fans greeted him with a chant of “You tapped out!”

Orton acknowledged this, giving the fans a reason for his submission loss. “I will admit, I did tap out,” he said. “I returned to the ring three months early from a broken ankle; even though I could use that as an excuse, I won’t.”

After reiterating that he had faced Angle in his home environment, the Legend Killer said that “in two weeks it will be in a WWE ring, and I guarantee a victory. It’s my destiny to kill the legend of ECW and I’m going to start with Kurt Angle.”

Angle offered a rebuttal to Orton’s comments in an exclusive phone interview, saying that the Legend Killer is actually the lucky one. “Was Randy Orton 100 percent when I wrestled him at ECW One Night Stand?” the Wrestling Machine asked. “Maybe not, but maybe that’s why I took mercy on him. I don’t usually do that, (but) I’m not here to end Randy Orton’s career; I’m here to make his life a living hell.”

The Wrestling Machine then went on to say that he accepted the challenge basically out of anger. “If Orton wants to challenge the greatest wrestler in the history of WWE or any other promotion he’s more than welcome,” Angle said, “but this time he’s pissed me off and this time I wont take any mercy on him. If he wants to get back in the ring with me I’ll make him tap out and break his ankle again. (That will) teach him a lesson not to mess with ECW’s Kurt Angle.”

He also offered a warning to Orton. “Maybe Vengeance will be my worst day, but
(on my worst day) Randy Orton still can’t beat me,” Angle said. “I honestly believe that on my worst day I can beat anyone in the world. What I’m going to do is train my ass off, and I’ll do the same thing I did last time. I’m going to break Orton’s ankle in two and make him miss another three months, all because he made the mistake of challenging Kurt Angle.”

Back on April 14th, it was Angle who broke Orton’s ankle with the Ankle Lock after their first-round King of the Ring tournament match; again at One Night Stand, Angle was victorious by submission. Can Angle keep his streak alive at Vengeance, or will the third time be the charm for the Legend Killer on June 25th?

Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair
June 25th, 2006

There will be a battle of legends that has been brewing for three years at Vengeance when Mick Foley faces Ric Flair in his hometown of Charlotte, N.C. in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match.

Mick Foley came to the ring on the June 12 edition of RAW to address his WWE fans to let them know that the old Mick Foley was back – the lovable, human muppet was back. But before Foley could get much further, he was interrupted by none other than the Nature Boy Ric Flair. And then, three years of pent up frustration completely boiled over.

“You standing up for WWE is crap. You’re a glorified stuntman,” said an enraged Flair. “For 10 years guys like the Nature Boy, Triple H, The Rock, Stone Cold, Undertaker and Kurt Angle have wrestled their way to greatness. And you know what bugs me? People come up to me and say that the coolest thing they ever saw was Mick Foley falling off the top of the cage and through the announce table at Hell in a Cell. That pissess me off. We have bled and wrestled our way to greatness. You just fall off a cage, and you’re great.”

Foley wasted no time in responding to the Nature Boy’s heated words.

“What pisses you off is that they (the fans) don’t care about you vs. Harley Race at the first Starrcade. They don’t care about you vs. Ricky Steamboat. They don’t even remember you vs. Terry Funk in the I Quit Match,” said Foley. “To WWE fans, to my WWE fans, you’ll never be in my same league. And you know more than anything else that you can’t do anything about it, because the glorified stuntman will rip you apart just like that.”

Flair promptly ripped off his jacket and dared Foley to take a shot at him, but Foley backed off. The Hardcore Legend said that due to blurry vision and sever lacerations from One Night Stand, he couldn’t do it on RAW. But he would do it at Vengeance. To make matters even more interesting, Vengeance will be in Flair’s hometown of Charlotte, N.C. And to try to rub it in, Foley wants to beat Flair at his own game.

“I won’t need thumb tacks, ladders or barbed wire. I’ll outwrestle you at Vengeance in your hometown of Charlotte,” said Foley. “And I’ll do it your way – in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match.”

Flair wasted no time in accepting, so the two legends will battle in an epic clash in less than two weeks. Will Foley be able to beat Flair at his own game, or will the Nature Boy back up his claim that the Hardcore Legend is nothing but a glorified stuntman? Don’t miss Vengeance on June 24th at 8/7 CT to find out.
