Because of us, toxic waste pollutes our seas and presents us with dead sea lions washing ashore every so often.

That's how we communicate with nature. And as a result, we have a love-hate relationship with it. It gives us life, and every so often for our limitless desire to demand it's attention whenever we so please, it expresses it's gratitude by doing a routine population control procedure in the form of floads, quakes and hurricanes. But only in cases when we lack to do one of our own.

I like it best when nature does one though. War is so brutal.
We as a species may end up killing our planet, and having more and more people on the Earth is one certain way which could lead to a horrible end. More and more people will use up our precious resources at a greater rate, as well as producing increasing amounts of pollution and using up even more land. So no, I don't believe it is our duty to have children, especially at this point in history.
