He definitely is no Austin or Rock. But I don't think he's trying to be either of those guys.
The rap persona can be kind of a disadvantage considering most WWE fans probably don't like rap. But I think if he went back to cutting trash talk freestyles on his opponents before matches, he might get some more people behind him again.
I just appreciate the fact that he isn't trying to act like he's everybody's favorite wrestler. I LOVED the fact that he mentioned on RAW from Boston that half the WWE fans don't like him. He's honest and real, and most of all, he's himself. That's not something you get from most superstars. Instead you see things like fashion consultants, golf players with caddies, and "superheroes," a bunch of gimmicks without genuine emotions from the men who play the roles.
As for WrestleMania, if Kurt Angle doesn't have the title by then, I think Cena will be facing Edge per Edge's money in the bank guarantee. I think that'd be really intense. Edge is severely hated and Cena can wrestle that match as a big time face, I'm sure of it.
As for his albums, I don't give a damn. I care about watching John Cena in the ring, because I believe him when he says that's where he'll always be.
And I actually think it's refreshing to see a face who overcomes the odds every time. We've had to sit through countless heel title reigns for five-plus months at a time watching them cheat their way to victory in every situation. It's so refreshing to see a face who won't let himself get screwed every time he's in a big match. In fact, Batista is just the same way also. But anyway...
The time since WrestleMania XXI has been a hell of a change of pace. The past few years we've been used to seeing a new heavyweight champion every three months. Now we have two guys who may both make it a whole year with their belts. It's like a throwback to the old days when champions were more capable of defending their title for a long period of time. Trust me, it'll make title changes all the more exciting. |
