Was the war ever on religion? I highly doubt it. I think that's what people were told in Iraq though. So they immediately hated USA for the wrong reasons. The war... really was on "freeing Iraq". Yes, they needed help, it wasn't fair. But why free them instead of the much more needed help in Sub-Saharan Africa? Africa rejects America's involvement just as much as Middle East but we go in the Middle East anyways, when basically a much more intensified situation is erupting in Africa. Genocides. It's really a paradox and kind of a mind puzzler isn't it?
And no. Islam does not teach stuff like that. Fundamentalists twist meanings of teachings all the time to get their way. And little by little they themselves destroy the integrity of their own religion.
And Errick, I really don't think your friend really what's been happenign in Israel. It's one of those things where the only solution is share the land. All sides have completely justifiable claims to Jerusalem.
