SPL clubs wishing to bring in new players will not be able to do business until FIVE days after the transfer window opens due to administrative staff going on holiday.

Scottish football’s governing body, the SFA, will operate ’emergency’ numbers from midnight on December 31st to register players with them. But clubs are also required to register with the SPL and the league body closes at 5pm that day and does not re-open until January 5th.

The SFA’s Registration boss Sandy Bryson explained: "The problem for SPL clubs as such is that while they are able to register new signings with us, it will not be possible to do so with the SPL. Therefore, the player will not be eligible to play until after January 5. That is the problem with the SPL running a registration department in tandem with ourselves."

Rangers, for example, may be forced to hold off Bojan Djordjic’s debut and Dunfermline could face similar problems if Lee Makel returns to Scotland in the coming days.
