So, according to you, the equivalent of sin for the nonreligious is the governmental law?
If that is what you are saying, then what about unjust laws? Are you saying a nonreligious should follow ALL laws, including unjust laws or else that is a sin in your eyes?
Excluding unjust laws, what if there were no chance of getting caught breaking a law? Would you then consider it okay to break that law, for the nonreligious? If so, then what, now, becomes the definition of what is acceptable or not?

I agree that no one is perfect and everyone does non-perfect things, which in some eyes may be considered a sin. My whole issue is the religious part. Okay, so we all do things that aren't perfect, but when someone with a big religious chip on their shoulder comes in and says, "You've sinned! You should be shamed and ask for forgiveness! You're wrong for doing what you're doing! You're living your life in sin and God doesn't like that!" THAT'S what I have a problem with. Not everyone believes in God, and even those who do believe in God don't have the exact same beliefs about him/her. I don't believe as you do, so why should I be subject to your religious standards? |
Most of the people who run around preaching hellfire and brimstone aren't really Christians anyway and, in fact, are masquerading as such to turn the public AWAY from Christianity. It works! There are also a variety of strange religions posing as Christianity (but they aren't) which are really cults. They play on people's desire to belong to a group, exploit that, make them think they'll go to hell unless they join them, and then suck out lots of money from the members. NOT to be confused with the collection plate, which is voluntary, in the cults, it is mandatory, and they also try to keep people from having contact with anyone except other cult members.
Though you haven't explicitly mentioned either of those, I tend to think it highly likely those are really the people you are referring to, rather than genuine Christians who just so happened to tell you something was a sin/bad.
